Water Memories vol. 03 — Arthur & Merlin: The Song of Water

Logline

A poetic journey through Brittany and England tracing the watery paths of King Arthur and Merlin – springs, tides, mists and ancient stones – guided by the words of Fabio Bortesi and the Celtic harp of Agatha Bocedi.

Short synopsis
Water Memories – Arthur & Merlin: The Song of Water is an experimental, poetic documentary weaving myth, landscape and sound. In the forest of Brocéliande/Paimpont in Brittany, Fabio Bortesi explores water‑related myths around Merlin and Arthurian traditions, while the Celtic harp of Agatha Bocedi creates a living soundscape of woods, mists and sacred springs.

The journey continues to the cliffs of Étretat, where the sea becomes a living page to question Arthurian legends that look out to the ocean, and to the Breton salt pans, where a Celtic salt producer shares the origins, techniques and myths of a mineral deeply tied to water.

In England, between Avalon/Glastonbury Tor and Stonehenge, Fabio revisits stories of King Arthur, mist‑shrouded isles and thresholds between worlds, while Agatha performs medieval and Celtic pieces, turning the harp into a character in its own right. With aerial, underwater and above‑water cinematography, the film explores water as a living memory connecting myth, land and sound. Fabio speaks in Italian, with English subtitles.

Synthesis

Water Memories – Arthur & Merlin: The Song of Water is a 45–60 minute experimental, poetic documentary weaving Arthurian myth, sacred landscapes and the memory of water across Brittany and the UK.

In the forest of Brocéliande/Paimpont, Fabio Bortesi unfolds water‑related myths around Merlin, springs and ponds as thresholds between worlds. The Celtic harp of Agatha Bocedi is a continuous musical presence, and through her interview we discover the instrument’s ancient roots and its role in Celtic musical tradition.

On the cliffs of Étretat, the film opens to the North Sea: Fabio reflects on the ocean as a line of passage and exile in Arthurian legends, while aerial and in‑water cinematography stages the dialogue between rock, wave and wind. In Brittany’s salt pans, a Celtic salt producer shares techniques, family lineages and myths of a salt born from the meeting of ocean, sun and human patience.

The journey continues in England: at Avalon/Glastonbury Tor, Fabio deepens the stories of King Arthur, the mist‑shrouded isle and the waters that surround and conceal; Agatha performs medieval and Celtic pieces, turning the harp into a bridge across time. At Stonehenge, the film closes on a landscape of stone and sky where water is mostly invisible – mist, rain, underground – and word, music and image retrieve the echo of an ancient relationship between elements, myth and memory.

Aerial, underwater and above‑water sequences guide the audience through an immersive experience where water is the connective thread between real geography and inner landscapes.
